My original mag switch is failing to ground and I was wondering if anyone here has ever taken one apart and rebuilt it. I still have a factory switch which is keyed the same as my doors and I kind of hate to just throw a new one from Bendix in. Bill K

You should be able to bend the tabs up and remove the back of the switch, clean it with electronic cleaner and polish the contacts and be good to go. do not mess with the tumblers in thhe front of the key lock.

If anyone knows of a source for a new or good used mag original mag switch I would appreciate the help. I have a Bendix but that is not original and mine was breaking up inside to the point of being almost impossible to rebuild. Bill K

Per LPM:

Bendix started making ignition switches in 1947.

Any TCM distributor should have one, or a repair kit. P/N 10-357510 might work, but be sure and check on that kit P/N, I am not absolutely sure that kit is what goes with your switch.

I re read my post and see that it was not really clear. I actually have the Bendix to use as a repacement for my original (manufacturer unknown) switch. I was trying to avoid installing the new Bendix switch because my old mag switch was keyed the same as my doors. That said the actual Keyed part is seperate from the mag switch so any original mag switch from an original 48 170 will work. I know looking for an original switch is a long shot but I had to give it a try as I have a very original 170 and I am trying to keep it that way as much as possible. Thanks for your help guys. Bill this is not as difficult as it might first appear. Any qualified locksmith can adjust your switch to your key. If possible, take both switches to your locksmith so he can swap the tumblers.
