engine baffling

engine baffling

Hey all
Hope 2007 is going well so far.
Have been looking thru the forums and found info on engine baffles but the parts for sale are the entire baffle.My question is does anyone know if it is possible to purchase the material that attaches to the baffle.On my 56 this seem to be a rectangular felt strip wrapped in a vinyl like material that is stapled to the metal.

I was able to make the 'Staples" out of safety wire using the existing holes.

we buy silicone baffle material in rolls from RAM Aircraft (http://www.ramaircraft.com/Aircraft-Par ... terial.htm)

expensive but it literally lasts forever

I cut the old staples off with a pair of dykes or you can use a dremel cutoff wheel. I attach the new baffle material with 1/8" rivets, soft aluminum if you can find them (easy to squeeze and it isn't structural) or pop rivets, just drill a #30 hole in every other staple hole or so.

you are replacing what is essentially a felt pad with more modern baffle material, remember that the material must lean forward so the relative wind forces it out against the cowling. if you need to you can bend the top 1/2" of your metal baffle edges forward to help the installation set correctly.
