While doing the 100hr insp on the engine of our 170A. I noticed the bottom of the battery box had a little flaking. To my surprise after removing the battery there was a lot more damage on the inside that required a lot of repairing. The cause of the corrosion was due to the fact that the flared vent tube in the bottom of the box is epoxy in, had came un-exopy which did not allow the flare to set flush in the bottom.. I sugest during your annual not only service the battery but also remove it..
I used to remove the battery and paint mine box every other year. Now it is every year..Gary
