Aircraft Spruce Panel Lights
Aircraft Spruce has felxible panel lights (for under the glare shield) avilable for experimental aircraft. The panel lights appear to be ideal for use in the C170 - great way to get the extra light I need at night. Can I get away with installing the flexible panel lights on my C170 glare shield?

I can't figure out how to attach the Spruce page.

I can't imagine why this wouldn't just be considered a minor alteration, as long as they are in addition to, and not a total replacement of, factory lighting. If you want them,... go for it. Logbook entry.

Robert,
Look up Bob Schroers (Washington state) in the 170 Directory. He made the padded, lighted glareshield I have installed under STC SA152NW. I've had mine since 1985 and all the bulbs and dimmer work like new.
Note the switch and dimmer (that came with the glareshield) in the far right of the panel.

I have two frineds, one with a 182 and another with a 210 that have purchased and installed the Avion glareshield - uses existing dimmer switch. Both friends state the fit was exceptioinal.

Miles-
Did #6 cylinder ever get into the fight? The EGT spreads looked pretty wide. Mine are bad also but even out almost perfect with full carb heat.
