Need 2 new cylinders

I need to replace two cylinders on my C145-2. What kind? Where do I get them, and how much? I'm not a mechanic-type so any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Bryan.

By what criteria have you used to determine you need 2 new cylinders? What position are these cylinders in? How much total time on these cylinders? What shape are the other cylinders in, how much time on them? How many hr do you fly a year? There are a lot of things to consider. It usually is a financial trade off. A lot of options, need more info to pick a logical finical path.

If you're not a "mechanic type"... how will you replace the two cylinders you intend to purchase?
It's not usually a good idea to take your eggs to the restaraunt and ask them to cook them for you. (Not to mention the possibility that the eggs may be rotten and then you'd want the restaraunt to warrant their cooks labor?)

Find the mechanic who will confirm you need two new cylinders and allow him to make a reasonable profit on the parts as well as his labor, and he'll be a lot more co-operative should the parts or labor later prove needful of warranty. (If you brought me two cylinders and I installed them you'd owe me the labor. If those cylinders failed, then YOU would have to argue with the mfr'r to obtain your cylinder-warranties, YOU would have to pay the freight on those cylinders... AGAIN.... and YOU would have to pay me AGAIN to remove them, and install the replacements.... and YOU would be in exactly the SAME BOAT AGAIN when those replacement cylinders also fail.)

Wow... so here is an answer to your actual question
I just purchased ECI cylinders from http://www.aeroinstock.com back in jan. They were very easy to deal with and shipped very fast. I see they are up to $709 for a new steel barrel cylinder. I think they were 650 when i purchased them. They also have new continentals and superior. I like they eci's because they were CHEAP and they seam to work fine so far. You do not get rocker arms with new cylinders. You will have to have your rocker arms overhauled or get an exchange set.
You could have yours overhauled, but BJ's aircraft engines, Aero Recip, and AK aircraft engines prices were the same as a new cylinder assy.

George your advice should take into account the questioners location. In Nome there A@P's behind every tree. Alaskan's often have to operate just a little outside the normal Texas ops.

There are several ways to obtain "new" or "new-to-you" cylinders:
Rebuilt cylinders are available from many distributors and overhaulers such as Sentry, in Fort Worth, TX.
Newly mfr'd cylinders are available from the original engine mfr'r: Teledyne Continental, in Fairhope, GA (my personal choice),

Perhaps, but virtually every A&P I've known is much happier to also make the standard mark-up on cylinders, and my advice is still valid.... if you bring your own eggs to the restaraunt, you have a much bigger problem when they are bad eggs.

Thanks for the advice. I do agree with George, but me mechanic is a good friend and suggested I shop around. Looks like I'll have to ground her for a few months...the best months of the year. So much for sheep hunting. Thanks again.

I have six cyl from my major at which time I replaced them with new ones. These cylinders have about 600 hours, if I recall correctly, and have been rebuilt once by a good shop. I will sell you two for $100 total. You pay the shipping. I really do not know the condition of these cylinders but If they are not usable, I will refund your $100. If you have to pay a bunch for a mechanic to install them, it's probably better to buy new ones. I bought and supplied to my mechanic the ECI cylinders for my major. Steve.

J and J Airparts sold me new ECI cylinders for $625.00. ea. They could not have been more helpful or friendly to deal with..... Located in Tx..... had them to me the next day....

J and J is also who I have used quite satisfactorily... except IF you have a preference be certain to specify or they will make the choice for you. (we all know about ASSUME ..... Well, I shipped them my Continental cylinder which they condemned, and I ASSUMED my request to simply ship me a new one would be a genuine Continental replacement,.... but they shipped a Millenium. They handle both, so make your choice LOUD and CLEAR.)
