aileron carry thru cable

Post by n4517c »

During the last annual, we found the aileron carry thru cable frayed in both places where it passes over the formica rub strips in the ribs. ( 0523233-3 ). This location is very hard to reach and we had to remove the cable to confirm what the fingers seemed to feel. The AI said he had found this condition during a rebuild and therefore started to check other early Cessnas during annuals. He found most older planes had frayed cables at this location. The formica wears forming a slot over time
