Slick Mags

Post by Robert Eilers »

Out here in Calfornia pilots are having problems obtaining parts for Slick mags - something to do with a Slick AD and acquistion of Slick by either GE or "Jenezon?". Anyone have any more information on this problem?

You probably are referring to "Unison" which is the owner of Slick. Don't know anything about hard-to-find parts on current models, however. Older, obsolete models might have a scarcity of parts.

What a genuine rip off!
Send your mags to Savage or that mag shop up in Grass Valley and have them done. Good harnesses are not that expensive either.
In my opinion (not by a damn site humble) fine wire plugs in a stock C-170 engine is like feeding caviar to a pig. It doesn't make the pork any better.

Ya know what? You can send Aircraft Spruce your old Bendix Mags, and for about $400 - $600 each they will exchange them for fresh overhauled units. Before I switched to Slicks, that's what I'd do if I had Bendix. (Bendix is a better mag in my opinion.)

If anyone has a need to replace Bendix mags, please be advised that we've had very poor results with Bendix mags overhauled by Kelly Aerospace.

I don't know who does mags for Chief Aircraft, but I've had good luck so far with the pair of Bendix mags I exchanged at my overhaul 2 years ago. I did have a problem with an exchange carb through Chief, but they made it right on their nickel.
