1948 Leading Edge Landing Light
I have a 1948 170 and wish to install the leading edge landing light. We have found the owner of the STC but they do not have the drawings anymore. Does anyone have the drawings available for this modification?

If the owner of the STC does not have the drawings and supporting data, then they cannot sell or support it and the FAA will not smile if they attempt to do so.
I suggest you contact Del Lehmann at Mountain Airframe, Mena, AR who can manufacture and install an approved system for an all-metal wing and can probably install one for you. (479) 437-3333

If someone still had the drawings, I could have a field modification performed. As an alternative, I am also looking into installing the original landing light but am in need of the parts. Any help would be appriciated to get some light during the night.

Good luck on a field approval. Even if someone had the drawings from the STC, the FAA would not likely field-approve a modification which is covered by an STC.

Thanks for your help. If I can't come up with anything, I will contact Del to see if he can help with the rag wing. I thought I saw one installed in a 1948 at Lee Bottom last weekend but missed the owners and didn't write down their N#. Would you try the leading edge or try to install the original grimes? I don't plan on selling, it is just such a nice plane.

I'd like to see the original landing light set-up restored if possible, but I understand the problem with parts and that Grimes motor. Salvage yards might be the best answer. Try Aircraft Salvage of Dallas. http://www.asod.com/ Talk to "Lucky", he's very knowlegeable.
