slick maggs

Post by DAIRYdr »

HELLO ALL, I am a new tail wheel pilot I just purchased dads cessna 170 B n3210A . have been flying a comanche 400 the last 9 years ! I HAD a wonderful 11hr flight home from mod to ats nm. did not mind the extra fly time at all, I got well aquatinted with my new lady! but enough about me heres the problem the maggs now have over 500 hrs since the last rebuild in 1991. I ordered the slick kit 0n 9/4 ,maggs harness & fine wire plugs from spruce all for $1473.00 I called to check on my order 10/4 they told me that champion had purchased the slick division from unison & now the same deal would cost me $2653.00 needless to say i am not happy! Have your Bendix mags rebuilt a lot cheaper. I highly recomend Aircraft Systems, 5187 Falcon Road, Rockford, Ill. 61109 Telephome 1-815-399-0225. I have used them for overhauling and or inspecting and repair as necessary for three sets of mags. Always excellent work.

According to TODAY'S Aircraft Spruce catalog ONLINE.... the price is still about $1400 for 2 mags, harnesses, and plugs. They have the BLUE harnesses in current stock at those prices.

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)

I just got a service bulletin in the mail from Cessna for Slick mags citing a problem with premature wear on the breaker cams. Something to think about at any rate.
