fuel vent tube

Post by akrod »

Hello,
Hoping to get some advise. The fuel vent on top of my fuslage was damaged and now I would like to replace it with a serviceable one. A friend told me to just weld/solder a new tube in instead of buying a serviceable one. Whats the forum opinion? thanks

If you're trying to find a "Goose Neck" vent, you're very likely to draw a blank. It would be a relative easy job for a competant aluminum welder to make one. Just don't try to fabricate it on the airplane. It is a non structural part, so it would even be usable if it was aluminum brazed rather than welded.
