I have now taken a big step and purchased a 406 mhz ELT. Wow.
But I discussed the installation options with my A&P, and he indicated that the 170 has no structure strong enough to mount a 406 unit; as it must support 100lbs in every direction with no bending more than 1/10 inch.
Can other illustrious members provide some thoughts on this installation, as I certainly did not intend to reconstruct the entire aircraft to put this thing in.

I haven't read that the mounting is any different than the style of ELT now in use......Maybe something I need to look into...But, the floor board under the rear seat (with maybe, a doubler for the "up" part) should suffice for any ELT installation.....Brad

Check with your local avionics shop. I'll bet they will install it on the same shelf your present ELT is mounted upon if you have a remote ELT.
