Wing Strut STC?

Post by Rosey_La_Roe »

Does anyone know of an STC to use 170B wing struts on a 170A?

No I don't remember one and I've looked at a lot of odd stuff because of the odd nature of my own airplane.

Using B model strut will increase the dihedral. What is the reason you might want to do this? Perhaps it's already been done to your plane? You don't have to say.

I know of a 170B flying with 170A struts. The owner was quite surprised when I walked up and asked him about it. After asking the question if he had approval I quickly added I'm not from the FAA just the TIC170A police.

Ask the Russian designers. They use negative dihedral  As a side note a mechanic friend saw a B model with one "A" and one "B" strut on the same plane. The guy wondered why it wanted to fly in circles 8O

Thanks for the comments, I too was not able to find an STC to put a 170B wing strut on a 170A.

Does anybody know of someone who has an air-worthy co-pilot side wing strut for a 1951 170A (I belive the part number is 0523606-1).

Why would you want to slow down the A model and ruin its looks with B model struts?
