Carburetor, which is right

Post by djbaker »

I sent my carburetor out for service and inspection. The carb off the engine, an 0-300, turns out to be a 10-2971 which the repair shop says is for a Franklin engine. They say the correct carb is a 10-4895. Does anyone have any experience with this model? I want to use the right model, but hate to buy another one if there was some type of approved mod?

Kelly Aerospace manufactures and overhauls a variety of things including fuel system components. I found a cross reference list on their website for Marvel-Schebler carbs which appears to support the info you received from your service folks. FWIW, here's the link:

No problem. Can't vouch for the company, but it's the only cross-reference I could dig up during a fit of net-scrounging. Hope it helps.

I bought a newly overhauled carb at my overhaul 2 years ago,it's a Marvel MA-3SPA,p/n 10-4895-1. Cost about $550 exchange.
I know a guy who had the wrong p/n carb installed on his O-320 Lycoming. The supply house sent the srong one & it was installed withut the mechanic double-checking. I seem to recall the fuel burn was way high, which is what got him looking for a problem.
