Does anyone have a diagram for the operation of a starter on an 0300. I got the new drive seal NAPA # 9858 and want to be sure to install it correctly. I also just want to see what I'm going to find before taking it apart.

DJ,I was wondering if you'd installed that new oil seal yet,and how it fit? I decided that I'd replace mine too, even though it was replaced at overhaul 2 years ago,as it's weeping a little oil. I had two seal part numbers written down: 9858 & 9859. I went to NAPA Airmotive today & looked in the seal book--they are identical (1" shaft, 1.499" bore) except for the thickness. p/n 9858 is .250" & p/n 9859 is .188" . They didn't have either in stock,so I ordered a 9858. Hopefully when I pull things apart that'll turn out to be the right one.

Eric,

I put that one in mine 6 months ago and it was a perfect fit and I have no weepage from the starter.

Getting the old one out was a little bit of a hassle.

Good Luck, Kelly

We installed the 9858 and that seems to fit fine. No more oil.

Well,I finally pulled the starter off today to replace the starter-clutch oil seal and guess what? That 9859 part number I had written down was the right one after all. The seal I pulled out is 3/16" thick, the 9858 seal is 1/4",it would stick out of the starter adapter on the inside. It looks like that might interfere with the starter clutch,so I'm off to Napa again tomorrow to exchange the seal for the thinner one. Evidently there's some variation in the starter adapters with regards to the dimensions of the recess where the oil seal fits.
