'cessna' and '170' image in paint layout
HVS is getting a paint job this coming winter. I am going to paint her in the original '51 layout with an ivory base colour and red stripes. I need some help with the details. 1.Can anybody tell me if on the '51, the word 'cessna' is painted on the front of the cowl below the prop as I have seen on ...

Re: climb prop question
G'day All, I have been quite busy here with a record winter spray season leading into a big summer season. What a nice relief from the drought we have had. I went from not turning a blade in May, 25hrs ferry time in June (thats a whole other storey), had most of July off recovering from the ferry jo...

Re: 170A panel light wiring
G'day all... Bruce, Last annual I rewired my '51 A model. I found the same thing - the rheostat is powered directly from the master (fused of course). I recall suggestions in other posts when I searched( it may have been George if I recall) to put a drop of epoxy on the 'dim' end of the rheostat to ...

Blueldr, by blueldr » Mon Nov 23, 2009 4:51 am Looks to me that this elevator control lock would be far too easy to miss on a walk around preflight. Since that photo was taken I have painted that lock bright yelllow (didn't have any red paint). It really stands out against the aircraft paint. :wink...

Re: Radio replacement suggestions
One of our work planes (Air Tractor 502) has a King 97(?) and the other a Microair 760. The King unit is mounted in a bad spot under the door where any time there is heavy rain if gets drowned from the door not sealing, the Microair unit is mounted in the instrument panel out of harms way - no rain,...

Re: Back Seat Communication jack location
G'Day Marshall, I've just recently installed a Sigtronics SCi-S4 intercom as part of my annual/tidy up. I mounted the rear jacks in the rear door post trim piece..... intercom jacks-rear.jpg This is in an 'A' model, not sure if a 'B' or ragwing is different. I would recommend keeping the jacks high ...

Re: ford built B-24's
Those pictures are amazing!!
The thing that stands out to me is the huge scale of the operation. Its like a city there.
To think that was only one of many plants around the States. The mind boggles!

Re: panel rewire
LB, Thanks for the compliment on the dash. I have been away this week (up in the hills spraying fertiliser) so sorry for the late reply. In the Australian regs there are requirments for alternative instrument lighting i.e. on a separate circuit for night flying. I assume there are similar rules ther...

Re: panel rewire
LBpilot82, I have just about finished the rewire in my '51a. I used the Klixon 7277-2-xx CB's. The reason I went with these is that the Ayres Thrush aircraft I worked on during my days as an AME (the company I worked for was the Australian Agent/Importer and had a fleet of 14 of these when I was an ...

Re: Vacuum system starving
Dwayne, Mod Cessna is correct. The vac system only runs vac gyros. The instruments you refer to are operated by the pitot/static system(ASI pitot and static, Alt and VSI static only). Sounds to me like some moisture found its way into your static system causing erronious readings. With a blocked sta...

Del, That polished sill is an excellent idea. Thank you for sharing. Richard, Thanks for taking the time to post that picture. It really really clarifies what Del is talking about. It looks really good, as does the rest of the plane so far. Bruce, Unfortunately I won't be able to attend Duluth this ...

Annual Time
G'Day All, Its annual time for HVS. So far all is well. I am going to paint the interior trim and dash as well as doing a complete rewire including new intercom and CD player and of course replacing the fuses with CB's. The paint on the door sill (? lower structure of door opening)is badly scratched...

Re: Home Made Lower Instrument Panel Cover
Thanks Bruce,
I might have opened a can of worms here, I was only going to do the left panel for now but ended up pulling the right one as well. I have plans to do the upper one as well as the rest of the instrument panel. Refurbishing can be addictive!

Home Made Lower Instrument Panel Cover
G'day All, My search for a locally available lower panel cover was unsuccessful so I thought I would have a go at making my own. I got piece of .020" alclad and started cutting and bending. I used some aluminium round stock turned down, ground, riveted and filled for the corners and a dimple di...
