Re: Gill G25S Rant

Aircraft Spruce part number 11-01945 Odyssey battery for 162.50. You will have to go to F Atlee Dodge for their battery box and stc which will run about 300.00. Some members have been simply been stuffing the Odyssey into the old battery box with foam cushion. The Atlee Dodge box is quite nice. Ste...

Agree.....I could, but since I sign the aircraft out on my AME licence I just can't seem to hold the pen straight...LOL :D

Re: Pattern procedures

I'm with George on the brake test prior to landing. I was taught to use GUMBLES for a pre-landing checklist: gas, undercarriage, mixture, BRAKES, engine, seatbelts. About a year ago while landing on a nice calm WINDY day in Boulder City (there's humor in there somewhere), I performed my GUMBLES che...

Re: Gill G25S Rant

Gone through 3 Gill batteries in the 6 years owning my 170. I have become an expert at hand proping my plane. I also know the phone number of our class C tower because I have had to call them multiple times instead of using the radio. You remember what all those light signals mean dont you. I am an...

Re: Pattern procedures

I'm cautious of testing the brakes before landing for fear of 1) accidentally "setting" the parking brake (if it's not been disabled) prior to touchdown, {How does one know the brakes released after application on take-off? Ans: because the takeoff roll is normal. How does one know the br...

Re: Pattern procedures

I got my tail wheel training recently in a 65 HP Cub and I have been doing some pattern work in an 85HP stroked Cub. But I need some pattern procedures in my 48 stock 170 to work on and then modify to suit me and my aircraft. I tried 2000 RPM on 500' AGL downwind at end of runway with one notch of ...

Re: Wheel Pants

Ralph.....On a more serious note....are the pants new to your aircraft or have you been operating with them on for sometime? The tire expansion at touchdown you mention should be localized to the tread area; however, the tire as a whole, may slightly enlarge, but I can't substantiate that theory wit...

Re: Hangar Bay Interiors?

Hello everyone..I am thinking about replacing the carpet in my 56 172. Has anyone done any business with Hangar Bay? I called and they seemed very nice, got a couple samples, etc. Thanks,Pete I ordered a new carpet for my 1948 170 from Airtex and did it myself. Very easy job, the centre floor area (...

Re: Interiors

If memory serves you are installing this in a 48. 48 and model headliners have the inspection zipper running dow the center fron to back to facilitate cable inspection. B models and I assume the 175 have the zipper running side to side. Other than that I'd bet they are the same but I've never studi...

Re: original headliner

I'm doing the headliner in my 48 and the rods are missing (past owner threw them away :x ). The Airtex guy tells me they are different than the later model liner rods but he said the 48 thru 51 used the same. Is anyone installing a new liner (48 - 51) and could do a tracing of each rod, (5 total) I ...

Starman170 Go to the NTSB site and read the Galloping Ghost accident report - Sept 2011 Reno- there is a great study on flutter and aerodynamic loads, I witnessed that accident and saw flutter first hand. The TSBC web site has the C-152 accident report on the jammed rudder control - that's a good re...

Re: Upper door frame headliner brackets

I figured a crazy $ number like that. I know where there are two on a damaged 170 airframe but I don't have the heart to ask the owner if he would part with them.....yet. I will look around, thanks all
