Re: ELT Upgrade..?? ...or Not...??
The decision to go to 406 was driven by IMO and ICAO, not FAA - who, as the respective international governing bodies, are responsible for safety on the sea and in the air. The US is a signatory to both IMO and ICAO and generally complies with requirements. Since SARSAT/COSPAS is not owned by the US...

Re: Odyssey Battery Life
[,,,Real world experience George. You havent got a clue!! The sudden requirement of a large amount of energy heats the plates and facilitates the chemical reaction necessary. This is a true statement. Cycling headlights is a great example of energizing a battery's potential. Blowing the car-horn is...

Re: Odyssey Battery Life
I believe most, if not all, Odyssey batteries are AGM. Be sure your charger or maintainer is designed for AGM - some flooded cell chargers can damage AGM cells.

Franklin 165
I was looking up some info about something else and stumbled upon a post claiming the Franklin 165 was listed in the TCDS, so I checked the TCDS and it is indeed listed as an optional engine for the 170! A quick wikipedia search shows about a 40lb difference in listed dry weights, but I have no idea...

You believe I've "willfully and intentionally misconstrued" your "friendly and respectful post".... and I"m "disingenuous"...Really? Yes. I do. And you did it again in this post. Worse, you put words in my mouth through the artful craft of selective quoting and ap...

If folks wish to willfully and intentionally misconstrue my friendly and respectful post as insulting, I cannot do anything about that other than to state it is disingenuous at best.
I wish you all good luck and stabilized approaches.

Re: Can a B Model be slipped at a less than 40 degree?
We are all assuming that all our aircraft are the same after 60 years . None of them are and flight charactics change due to mods and repairs and general wear and tear and rigging . Plus the fact is not all us pilots have the same amount of training and ability to get a aircraft out of trouble in o...

Re: Can a B Model be slipped at a less than 40 degree?
Highly opinonated comments follow: We all have strong opinions! :D :D Slips were used on flap-less airplanes to lose altitude quickly during an approach which required a steep angle that did not accommodate flap-less aircraft. Once it's advantages were discovered ..even on ordinary arrivals to adeq...

Re: Which headset ?
Bose. No question. I've tried many others, primarily in C-130/L100 aircraft, arguably the noisiest 'modern' aircraft out there. Nothing beats the Bose for NR. I got the older Bose-X and bought several pairs as military surplus and simply swap the mic/cord out for whichever application I need (dual G...

Leaning
What are your techniques for leaning the C-145/O-300? I generally climb full rich and once level and at cruise speed, slowly pull the mixture and watch RPM. Once RPM peaks and begins to drop, I push the mixture back in until it peaks and just begins to drop off. What about on the ground? Do any of y...

Re: Speed Calculation
Every flight in my 170 I am constantly looking for 150' of space that I can stuff it into if the engine quits. Bonus points if there is a road that will have access so that the wings can be popped off and the plane trailered away. This. I have a shorter field I'd like to operate out of. VGs and a S...

What do you have to look out for when buying 180 gear legs? What needs to be checked? Where do you send them to be checked?
