Hi,
I own a 170B with a Lycoming 0-360 installed with an Avcon STC. I would like to purchase a carb heat repair kit for the air box from McFarlane. The McFarlane Part number CCH-KT-4 "LOOKS" like the right one. Would appreciate any help/advice!
Thanks, Charlie Ross

Re: CARB HEAT REPAIR KIT
Charlie… I’m certainly in support of anyone/everyone keeping their airboxes iin good condition. Not to mention the air leaks that defeat any attempts to supply Filter-Air to the engine….. If a loose part or nut or cracked piece of sheet metal is sucked up onto the engine…it will NOT be a good flight.
However, I took the easy way out. I mailed my goofy-designed 172-C ratty airbox to Del Lehmann in Mena…and a week later…it was returned in “like new” condition for only a couple hundred AMUs. Some of the best money I’ve ever spent.

Re: CARB HEAT REPAIR KIT
Thanks George,
The hole in the bearing on one end of the carb heat valve shaft has worn into an oval allowing the shaft to vibrate and
break into 2 pieces. I wonder if Del could repair that, and if so would it be cheaper that a Mcfarlane kit?

My Avcon airbox was repaired with bronze bushings from McMaster-Carr or similar. It's been a few years and I don't remember the source, but they were only a few dollars each and have held up ok.

McFarlane offers Teflon bearings for some airbox repairs.
