Fuel Gauges

I know there have been several posts on the subject, but I couldn't find one with this problem. One of my gauges has been inop, so I took it out. Needle didn't move when I moved the linkage. I thought maybe the needle was corroded/stuck so I took the bezzle and glass apart but the needle moves freely. It seems that somehow it has lost it's magnetism. Does any one know if the needle is a magnet or the "horseshoe" piece on the inside is the magnet. How would one re-magnetize in this situation. The rest of the gauge works great, the cork is even still bouyant.

Hmmm. Just fooled with my gauges and have one available at home I could check. I just thought the horseshoe was the magnet.

I agree. The "horseshoe" part is the magnet. An electric motor shop that works with DC motors may be able to re-magnatize it. Otherwise, I would just order one from Aircraft Spruce. You will have to cut the arm to the correct length - just match your existing gage. 8)
