Looking for a project

Post by ballison »

Hi everyone. I am new here. I am an A&P mechanic looking to restore an airplane to eventually be my pride and joy. I cannot think of a better aircraft than a Cessna 170. I am looking for a project 170. I would prefer an A or B model but will take any. I would like a complete airframe, or airframe and engine core. I thought maybe some of you other 170 enthusiasts had or know where there may be a 170 begging for a little love.

From what I can recall, there have been a few failed attempts to buy the airplane, but it may be worth a start. This may be more project than you are looking for/too far gone. It would be great to see it saved.

That is a real shame to see such a great airplane suffering so bad. I saw some comments about the corrosion. I would imagine it would be pretty bad sitting outside for so long. Older Cessnas were bad for corrosion anyway then to let the poor thing out under the trees for so many years. If someone has looked at the airplane recently and feels it may be salvageable I might be interested it taking a trip down to look at it. Keep them coming. I would love to save one of these beauty's!

I don't have a picture but if you go to N37.09 W120.49 in Google earth you can see this project. It is sitting next to Hwy 59 west of Merced, CA near where is intersects with Hwy152. This has been sitting in a farmers yard for quite a while and has been completely stripped with no N-number.

I had asked about the one in Merced a while back. It's also a sad sight. Several members have seen that airplane up close as well.

You'd be money ahead buying Mike Roe's project in Virginia instead of crating a project from the left coast. There's also a 1951 170A model in the TradeMart.

Thank you all for responding. I have had a few PMs about projects and know I will find one. Keep the great leads coming.
