Re-wiring

Post by Tim Harter »

I thought I remember reading a post on here that broke down how much of each size wire is needed for a rewire. I have a 1954. I tried the search to no avail. I know I can add it up from the electric manual but was going to be lazy and ask.

Tim, I think this is the thread you were looking for: http://www.cessna170.org/forums/viewtop ... =24&t=6292
If the forum's search engine doesn't find what you want, try Googling it with "Cessna 170" somewhere in the inquiry. Usually Google finds it right away.

If you have a parts manual it has a list of all the wires with lengths and wire gauge.

If you have a B model you will find the wires, lengths and gauge. If you have a '48 or an A model your out of luck though the same wire in a B should work in the early models.

Is there an easy way that looks good to label the wires upon replacement?

I've never had good luck with the write on wrap types. Specially with smaller wires
After looking around, I think I'll try the shrink tube label makers. At around $100, it's not cheap but all the cheap options seem to be, well, cheap.

I just write on the white shrink tube with a extra fine point sharpie. When shrunk, it's still very legible.
