on your C-170A (or B): how many hours labor did it take?
I am trying to get a handle on an average time for instalation.
Thanks
Rich

I installed one on my 170B project about 3 months ago. It took about 2 1/2 days to complete it. There was a lot of cut and fit and the drawings for the small parts fabrication were very poor. But it looks nice once completed. Good luck! The first cut on the side skin is the hardest! I kept it small and kept oversizing it gradually. Once you get the hinges mounted, the final cutting should be done.

Baggage Door
Don't recollect the time but do the price. A friend of mine did it (professional) for about $1500.00 or so....and that, believe me, is cheap. Did a fine job of it as well. Took him about 4 days. I had the hat rack reinstalled and that cost a few bucks more. Had a shop here in Illinois tell me he'd have to charge close to $2500.00 to do it.

I have done 2 baggage door installs and am about to do a third one. Dgkirk is right on, it usually takes about 2 - 2 1/2 days. The first one took me 2 1/2 days and the second one was on track to be done in 2 days until I found that the previously installed float kit was installed wrong. I ended up having to remove the whole float kit and reinstall it cause some of the brackets were actually in the door way.
I would be thrilled if someone was willing to pay $2,500 for me to install one. Maybe I need to raise my prices. I usually come in around $1,100 - $1,400 working by the hour.

Iceman, read my response in trademart. It is not hard to do, just a little unnerving to cut that long skin! Believe me it is a lot easier with the cut out. I do not kow how long it took as was done over a few differnt sessions. If you get the entire door and frame together there were no parts to make. Hinges an all fit right in. The only piece I had to get was the hat channels.

Blueldr,
I was just woundering. because dad's plane has a 180 baggage door and as I rember (this is thirty years ago) the time was astromical! of course this door has the interior button on the pilot side of the door frame and a clean apperance on the outside! The 172, 175, 182, and newer 180's will have the handle on the outside of the door, which dad's doesn't, As I rember the time to install this door is around 40 Hrs. which makes 2500.00 sound close to OK. (But that's 40 Hrs of podunk farmer time, the real time may be more)
