C170, I use http://www.MyPilotStore.com for my sectionals. Like you, I decided I wanted up to date charts so I called AOPA to sign up for the subscription service. They told me they no longer offered that service but recommended Sporty's so I called them and set it up. A couple of days later my firs...

Thanks Bruce! I hope we can link up someday. I've been in love with Clipped Cubs for 20yrs. In my RC days everyone was building replicas of Hazel Sig's blue and white sunburst job. I even had a video of her flying it. I think I just about wore it out playing and rewinding and playing...

Congrats Dave :D There is nothing more cool that a pile of old plane parts waiting to return to the sky. I would love to have a pile like that in my garage, only a J3 with clipped wings. Do you thing Bruce would take me for a ride someday?

A large number of stock Swifts are flying with C-145/O-300's and they use the mechanical fuel pump. The GC-1B's were originally produced with the C-125, which also uses this same pump, but almost all have been converted to either the C-145/O-300 or the IO-360 Cont. An old mechanic once told me that ...

Iowa, I know what you mean. I remember years ago a King air 300 flew into our little airport and the young copilot was going on about how scary those "little" airplanes were. The ink could not have been dry on his ticket. In truth he was just trying to impress my girl friend. Didn't work t...

Dave, I think the J3 is a little more dangerous than you think. It will just "barely" kill you.

Thanks to you both for the replies. IOWA, that last line of your post decribes my perpetual state of existence. I don't suffer from ignorance, I'm starting to enjoy it! 170C, that sounds like what I need to do. Maybe I can locate a used fiberglass unit and then cover it to match my interior. ...

170C

Would you mind giving some more details on your glare shield? It sounds like what I had in mind. I would like one that extends back far enough to block glare and hide instument lights but is also padded and upholstered to match my interior.

Bruce, You're right. The skull cap for the 8 bolt crank over hangs the 6 bolt by about 1/2". And of course the 6 bolt flange uses bigger bolts.

Curt, I can't resist adding my .02 worth because I have been down this road. By all means keep your airplane if for no other reason you know what you've got. But, proceed with caution and keep your eyes open. First, you can pull the wings off and trailer it home. I did it with a Swift once. Smaller ...

Dave Clark, High Road to China is my favorite. I saw it offered on ebay in a foreign type format, PAL I think. Maybe the newer DVD players will handle this?

Iowa, I'll try to get some together. Unfortunatly the nice pics I had of my 170 were lost when my computer crashed last month. Now I have this ugly blue spinner as a result of my engine change and I haven't had time to paint it yet.

Hi Iowa,

I enjoyed your pics. I have a polished and red 170 myself and a couple of CJ2A basket cases waiting patiently for my retirement.
